My brief, spoiler free (I think) Hobbit thoughts (virtually copy-pasted from SMAS coz I’m lazy :p)
I enjoyed it. It was fun and the cast was excellent, and that’s all I ask from a non-super-serious kinda movie.
Sylv was the dog’s bollocks of course. For the non-Brits reading, that means brilliant ;). In fact I do not understand the complaints of a handful of people that Rad is annoying and too goofy. I found very little goofiness. Oddness certainly, but nowhere near the level of hijinks Sylv can bring without even trying. For the most part he was actually quite serious. People must have an incredibly low tolerance - I mean miniscule - for kookiness if they found Radagast too much. Honestly, I don’t get the criticism. At all. You’d think he was going full-on Ace Ventura from what some people were saying (Jar Jar Binks? Seriously? Are you fucking kidding me?), and that couldn’t be further from the truth. And I’d still think that if I wasn’t a hideously biased McCoy fangirl. I’ve seen OTT, and that wasn’t it. Not by a long shot. People are weird. I’m glad I’m not people :p.
Anyway. Thinking back over the film, it did seem to me that sometimes the editing was a bit ‘off’. Like scenes were ended before they’d actually finished, or even had a chance to get started. I didn’t see it in HFR this time so I can’t comment on that, but I’m looking forward to experiencing what 48fps has to offer.
Aside from that, and a few instances of the CGI looking a little lacklustre (look at how bitchin’ Gollum is, and compare that to say, the wargs, Azog or the Goblin King…or as I like to call him, Bollockbeard :p) I’m happy with the movie and can’t wait until next year to see more.
Some Non-Spoiler Thoughts on The Hobbit:
This fellow stole the show:
Fully and completely. Best scenes were the ones he was in. Hands down. There is a point, when a majorly important character (a hedgehog), is about to die from some black magic. And he turns on his inner badass and puts the plot into motion. Such a good performance.
one word. Radagast.
The Hobbit was a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE. I can’t even describe how awesome it was properly.
Radagast should get an award for being the most crazy ass, bunny bobsled-riding, potential stoner wizard to ever exist.
I LOVE EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW!!!
The Hobbit was amazing.
And damn, Radagast is a baller.
